Dear Abby,
All my friends are looking at colleges far from home. These changes feel really overwhelming and it’s hard for me to build my connections when know they’re all going to break apart. How can I enjoy the rest of high school when I know it’s all ending so soon?
From, Frightened Futurist
Dear Frightened Futurist,
I know that after high school it can be very scary for many people. You’re taking a step into adulthood and a new chapter in your life. While going through these changes you need to keep a few things in mind. First of all, your social life does not peak in high school. You’ll have many more opportunities to build friendships in college as you attend class, join clubs, and cheer on your sports teams. Social media is also a good way to stay connected with your high school friends throughout your college years and later in life. You can watch each of them build their careers and futures while on different paths. Most importantly, you are not going through these changes yet! Even though you will be sad to see all your friends go in their different directions, there is a positive to all of this. No one looks back on their high school years and wished they stayed home to avoid missing their friends after graduating. You need to enjoy the moments you have so you can create good memories throughout your school years.
Sincerely, Abby
