December is the perfect cozy month to read, but finding a book you’ll like can be hard. To make it a bit easier, here are some of my favorite books to get you started.
First up, Nature’s Anatomy by Julia Rothman. Sometimes nonfiction is a fun break, but oftentimes it’s too boring; that is something this book is not. With many fun facts about nature, along with beautiful drawings on every page, this book is a great choice if you want a nonfiction book without the hundreds of pages of writing. It’s a couple of hundred pages, but each page is mostly drawings with a few notes, making those pages fly by.
My second recommendation is The Wild Robot by Peter Brown. This book is typically intended for younger ages, but honestly, it’s a great book no matter the age. At almost 300 pages, it’s not very short-though the pages have fewer words on them than the typical fiction book-and there are plenty of illustrations. This book is part of a trilogy, though I’ll admit I’ve only finished the first book, and also recently acquired a movie adaptation. If you haven’t watched the movie, I also recommend it; the art style is incredible, and the whole movie is just amazing.
Third is Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. This author is well known for great books with adult themes. This book, however, is a young adult book and appropriate for high schoolers. It is part of a series, though a warning that while books 1-3 are mostly clean, book 4 steps up in maturity, and books 5-7 are intended for adults. Throne of Glass is a fantasy romance with quite a lot of violence and some language as well, but an incredible series. It’s a bit over 400 pages.
And finally, we have Powerless by Lauren Roberts. This series is also a fantasy enemies-to-lovers romance, but this one is YA the whole time and only a trilogy. It’s an incredible series for all three books, and I love the romance aspect; it’s written well with plenty of banter. The first book is over 500 pages, so it’s a long one, but the plot of each book is pretty fast-moving as well, so it’s not slow.
Happy reading!
